Europe on the road to RDE implementation

During this year’s 3rd Real Driving Emissions Conference in Berlin more than 100 exhaust control and emission experts came together to discuss the latest RDE test procedures and upcoming regulations. With ongoing discussion about the right boundary conditions for RDE regulation, questions of comparability of test cycles and conditions, the delegates had quite a lot to on the agenda. And of course there was the Volkswagen Diesel emissions scandal dominating the news over recent weeks with consequences still unfolding on a daily basis. All of that set the perfect stage for the panel discussion asking "Europe on the road to RDE implementation?"

Listen to the audio recording of the panel discussion with:

Dr. Vincente Franco, Researcher on the ICCT Europe, focusing on HDV and LDV emissions modeling and simulation. Before joining the ICCT, he worked for the European Commission Joint Research Centre in Ispra (Italy), where he researched methods to improve the instantaneous accuracy of measured vehicle emission signals.

Prof. Zissis Samaras, Director of the Lab of Applied Thermodynamics, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering at the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece. His research work deals primarily with engine and vehicle emissions testing and modeling and he has carried out a wide range of projects on modeling emissions from internal combustion engines.

Dr. Axel Friedrich, technical chemist who worked for more than 28 years with the German Federal Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt). Formerly hhead of the division "Environment and Transport, Noise" which deals with all transport related environmental issues, including air pollution, noise and planning. He serves as the Chairman of the OECD working group on transport, Co-Chairman of the Joint OECD/ECMT Transport Environment working group, and is a Founding Board Member of ICCT.
