Enhance Security Assurance in Embedded Systems with MISRA C

Today’s embedded systems, from cars to toasters, are increasingly sophisticated and connected — to each other as well as to the outside world. Unfortunately, the security implications of this complexity and connectivity have been largely ignored, even if ignoring security could have disastrous consequences and cause physical harm.
Many of the devices compromised in recent times were embedded devices in automotive and medical equipment. A recent J.D. Power study* found that 189 software-related recalls have been issued in the last five years in the automotive industry alone. Of those recalls, 141 had the potential to cause an accident, while another 44 could have led to injury. Even more troubling is the fact that half of those recalled vehicles have not been fixed and are still on the road today.
