WORKSHOP INVITATION: Objective Approach to Hazard Analysis of Automated Systems in Vehicles

Hazard analysis process has been affected by issues of reliability and validity. While, industries like automotive, process and aviation have acknowledged these issues, a solution to solve these issues still evades the industries. The automotive industry provides an additional challenge for the “possible” solution as it has to meet the strict time and cost constraints of an automotive product life cycle. 

In this workshop, an objective approach is being used to address the reliability issues associated with automotive Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) process. Functional safety experts will be asked to do safety analysis of a given hazard of an intelligent/automated system. Experts will be provided with a set of rules for conducting HARA. The workshops will be conducted in a world café style with four rounds. The aim of the workshop is to understand the variation in the safety analysis of the hazard among different groups of experts and to establish the validity of the objective approach. This workshop would be fourth in a series of workshops to be conducted. Previous workshops were conducted in North America and Sweden with functional safety experts from across the automotive supply chain. A journal publication has been submitted based on the results of the previous workshop. A re-calibrated version of the rules (based on the feedback from the previous workshop) will be presented in this workshop. 

The workshop style is adapted from the World Café method.

• Four group rounds of 25 minutes each
• At the end of first and third round, members move to different (new) tables
• A harvest discussion session to share insights and results with the large group

The details of the four rounds are as follows:

• Round One: HARA for given hazard
• Round Two: HARA for given hazard (new groups)
• Round Three: HARA for given hazard using rules
• Round Four: HARA for given hazard using rules (new groups)

Results from the workshop will be shared with the participants. The workshop will be conducted in Frankfurt as a part of the IQPC International Conference ISO 26262.
