Electric Vehicles are built with great power and thermal management is one of the most important things for 48V or 800V. The higher the power of the vehicle, the stronger inverter you need which will generate more heat. This causes many challenges where thermal management is concerned.

Knowing this, Automotive IQ spoke to Dr. Jelena Andric, Thermal Management Energy Optimization Leader at Volvo Group, who produced this article on thermal management for power supply units to help us get a better understanding of how these challenges can be solved and the steps taken to design and modify cooling systems.

In this article Jelena covers:

  • The methods taken to maximize thermal cooling of the power supply unit
  • How companies are optimizing their designs and modifying their cooling systems to meet thermal management requirements
  • The new techniques being used to control power peaks
  • The new innovations being made for direct cooling methods
  • The challenges where thermal management is concerned in needing stronger inverters

Jelena is part of a panel discussion at the Automotive Power Supply Systems Week 2023, Germany, June 26 - 29, 2023. Register here.
