Intelligent headlamps are in the spotlight today for a number of reasons, such as the increased safety of nighttime driving, the global movement toward automated driving (AD), and the newly permitted Adaptive Driving Beams (ADB) in the US market. But, given the huge range of lighting levels, terrains, and roadway conditions vehicles encountered in the real world, how can intelligent headlamps be verified for safety? The time and costs involved in road testing make this strategy prohibitive, but engineering simulation provides a solution.

In this webinar, we will detail the challenges associated with digital lighting:

  • Logo recognition: Ensure correct recognition of projected pictograms under complex lighting conditions so fast and accurate driving decisions can be made.
  • Compacity: Reduce volume required by the Digital Lighting System to meet critical volume constraints of the headlamp.
  • Camera vision: Enable better detection performance by optimizing camera positioning in the headlamp.
  • Latency: Assess reactivity of the complete digital lighting system (from Camera to Headlamp) by connecting the real ECU to virtual night drive simulation.

By leveraging simulation, the design of intelligent headlamps and verification of their performance can be done in a virtual environment – saving significant time, costs, and manual labor from the end-to-end development cycle.

What you will learn:

  • Digital Lighting system design, including complexities such as a matrix of LEDs or lens assembly to project DMD/LCD on the road
  • Optimize Sensor and Lighting module layout in the headlamp
  • Real-time, physics-based "test drive” of headlamp design in a virtual environment that replicates the physical world
