WHERE IS THE INDUSTRY RIGHT NOW?

8:40 am - 9:20 am BREAKFAST BRIEFING | GAIN A CLEAR VIEW OF WHERE THE INDUSTRY IS RIGHT NOW, AND WHERE IT’S GOING NEXT

Claudio Vittori - Automotive Supply Chain and Technology Associate Manager, E-Mobility and Charging Component Research, S&P Global

TO PREPARE FOR EXPONENTIAL GROWTH IN THE NEXT 3 YEARS

Electric vehicles are going at fast pace bringing important changes for automakers, charging operators and final users. The EV rollout is a long marathon and one the industry has just started to warm up for. But the challenge for the industry is to understand:

  • What is the clear status of where we are right now?
  • How the consumers perceived the infrastructure ecosystem?
  • What’s coming in the next 5-7 years?
  • How the vehicles of the future might require on charging?
  • Which factors might impact the charging process and speed?
  • Where will technology progress?

This stage-setting briefing will lay out the numbers, give clear view on where the industry is right here, right now, and give attendees intelligence on how to ensure that they are prepared for exponential growth in the next 7-years.

AUTOMOTIVE & ENERGY WORLD UPDATE

LEARN BUSINESS MODELS & CONCEPTS FOR COOPERATION IN THE CHARGING SECTOR

As several European markets have, or will soon reach the tipping point of EV adoption, and while the recent global events highlight even further the need to decarbonize private transportation, there are still some fundamental challenges that remain to be addressed in order to accelerate the mass adoption of plug-in vehicles. As the mobility and energy sectors continue their convergence, new types of partnerships need to be formed leveraging the expertise of proven industry leaders.

This keynote brings together two of the leading forces driving the European EV uptake, and through the lens of the pan-European partnership between Genesis Motors and Shell Recharge Solutions, insightful topics will be covered including:

  • How to leverage this dual mobility / charging expertise while delivering a smooth and premium customer experience
  • How to offer a seamless, feature-rich EV shopping driving experience that addresses the key barriers to adoption
  • How to deliver unique brand experience through a customised customer onboarding journey

Understanding the future of charging begins with the recognition that the ecosystem will see OEMS, CPOs, E&Ps, and IT companies playing an important role. This panel looks at how the

EV charging space will evolve and what each player in the ecosystems will need to do to manage and overcome current problems and hurdles.

  • How to build an intelligent infrastructure so it goes along with the changing energy world
  • Establishing where charge points will be needed
  • Understand the regulatory framework that is making it mandatory for all European member states to invest in and create charging infrastructure
  • Defining what is the relevant and adequate infrastructure need to match the speed of EV growth

WHO CAN USE IT? DOES IT ACTUALLY WORK? WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS?

Plug and charge allows EV drivers to enter the charging point and simply connect the vehicle, where there is a certificate exchange between vehicle, charge port operator and customer, and begin automatically charging. While this system seems convenient for customer, questions remain:

  • Which charging hardware is required?
  • Which charging infrastructure is necessary?
  • Where are the databases to store vehicle data?
  • Who issues the certificate to make this work?

Charging should be equal to fuelling and the advanced technologies should allow hassle free electric mobility for customers. This session will zero in on this discussion, highlighting:

  • The current success rates
  • The pros and cons of plug and charge
  • Who can use plug and charge?
  • How could this standard become commonplace in charging infrastructure?

PRACTICAL MEASURES TO POWER SOMETHING THAT REQUIRES THE ENERGY OF A SMALL POWER PLANT

By 2026, the EU requires 30% of all the buses on the road to be fully electric. This is a very ambitious target. At present, most electric bus vendors/manufacturers sell to 12-18 months delivery times. It’s restricted both on availability of electric buses, but also the timescale to design and implement a bus depot and charging equipment availability and grid connection.

Whether it’s large fleets, trucks, buses or last mile deliveries, the industry needs to think of the ecosystem in place for electrifying commercial vehicles. There are a lot of new segments coming onto the market, but how do we charge those?

Join this session to hear about:

  • The evolution of vehicles from the commercial point of view
  • What practical measures need to be taken to power something that requires the energy of a small power plant?
  • Government support available for manufacturers announcing all electric commercial models
  • Electricity bandwidth available for depots in rural location

4:05 pm - 4:45 pm MEASURES TO FAST-TRACK THE ELECTRIFICATION OF CORPORATE AND URBAN FLEETS

Michelangelo Aveta - Electromobility & Energy Efficiency - Electrification Lead, Eurelectric

Representing 3.3 million vehicles today, EVs are expected to reach 65 million vehicles by 2030 - and 130 million by 2035. The clear trend pointing to the transition towards e-mobility is a combination of two factors:

  • Benefits to consumers (TCOs) and citizens (better air)
  • Ambitious policy initiatives

Join this session to get the latest on:

  • New targets for reducing CO2 emissions for new cars and new vans and for heavy-duty vehicles
  • Updating targets to ensure a cost-effective path to transport decarbonisation
  • Clear measures to fast-track the electrification of corporate and urban fleets
  • Learn emissions-saving benefits and circle for electric mobility
  • Understand how to accelerate EV infrastructure rollout and reduce EV costs for professional and private drivers
