9:00 am - 9:40 am WHAT IS REALISTICALLY POSSIBLE, FEASIBLE & PURPOSEFUL IN AUTOMOTIVE SEATING TODAY

Sahil Jain - Lead - Seating Systems, Arrival

We’ve designed the agenda for Automotive Seating Innovation 2024 to focus largely on realistic solutions and seating concepts, and not conceptual, futuristic ideas. It only makes sense to kick things off with a leading vehicle manufacturing company expert to find out what is realistically possible, feasible and purposeful right here, right now.

Join your peers as we give you the opportunity to hear from Arrival's leading subject matter expert in the seating domains, as he share details on what’s working, what isn’t working and what’s working best.

  • Gain insight into which seating concepts are being implemented for everyday passenger vehicles, premium luxury cars and commercial vehicles.
  • Understand how OEMs and Tier-1s are reaching the decision on whether to implement the latest features in seats vs. optimising vehicle efficiency.
  • Find out how much progress has been made to reduce the weight of seats, which optimises occupant comfort and safety.
  • Understand what measures are being taken to work towards and achieve high-level sustainability and circularity targets.
  • Determine what challenges continue to keep OEMs up at night and what solutions are they most in need of.

Circularity & Sustainability

9:40 am - 10:20 am WHAT ARE CIRCULAR ECONOMY CONCEPTS FOR AUTOMOTIVE SEATS & INTERIORS?

Samuel Dorrity - Subject Matter Expert - Digital Seating Attributes, JLR

With the automotive industry facing a new end-of-life vehicle directive, and a continued push for recyclability, experts are questioning the readiness of circular economy, and what this means for automotive seating and interior industries.

Join this session to hear a leading distinguished expert break down the concept of circular economy in automotive seating, with the end goal of establishing how to get in the direction of repair, reuse & recycling car seats.

  • Understand how to interpret the new end-of-life vehicle directive from a seating and interior point of view.
  • Gain insight into how circular economy concepts affect material choices for automotive seating.
  • Find out what steps the industry can take to work towards circularity.

10:20 am - 11:00 am EXAMINE NEW SUSTAINABLE APPROACHES, APPLICATIONS & PRODUCTION TOOLS FOR SEAT MANUFACTURING

Ignasi Cabrisses - Chief Designer for Interior Components & Seats, Lynk & Co

While sustainability is a high priority target for OEMs and Tier-1 organisations, companies are cherry-picking at this stage and looking for the path of least resistance to get closer to their sustainability goals and lowering the carbon footprint for each of the vehicle components.

Bringing down the carbon footprint of car seats has always been challenging, but this is exacerbated by vehicle electrification where you cannot stop the electrical consumption of the seat, remove features and functions and avoid the use of metals.

  • So what approaches, applications and tools are available for sustainable seat manufacturing? Join this dialogue to find out.

11:00 am - 11:30 am Networking Morning Break

Lightweighting, Performance, Range, Comfort and Safety.

11:30 am - 12:30 pm SHOWCASING HOW TO INTEGRATE DIFFERENT SAFETY FUNCTIONS/ELECTRONICS INTO THE SEAT WHILE KEEPING IT LIGHTWEIGHT

Dr. Andrea Upmann - Professor for Automotive Interior, FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences

Reducing weight requirements and keeping the seat light gets more and more challenging as OEMs request new features, functions, and components to be added into the car. For the premium vehicle segment, this is an even bigger challenge. Automotive companies are asking the question, ‘If the weight of seats can be reduced due to a high number of features and functions, will we need to reduce the weight of the vehicle elsewhere?’.

12:30 pm - 12:50 pm ROUNTABLE DISCUSSION GROUPS: LEGISLATIONS & SEAT PERSONALISATION

We cannot emphasise the importance and value of knowledge sharing, especially on topics that cover two of the seating industry’s greatest challenges. Hearing from one of two presentations will not do justice to these important subjects.

For the next 20-mins, we will take a break from listening to presentations on stage, to encourage dialogue off-stage between experts and peers in the audience.

12:50 pm - 2:00 pm LUNCH NETWORKING BREAK

2:00 pm - 2:40 pm NEW MOBILITY – CHALLENGES, OPPORTUNITIES & IMPLICATIONS ON PASSENGER VEHICLE SEATING

Thomas Dillinger - Innovation & Pre-development | Complete Seat Emea, Adient

- Join this presentation to hear a case study of the latest research an results for future of automotive seating.

3:20 pm - 3:50 pm Afternoon Break & Refreshments

3:50 pm - 4:30 pm UNDERSTAND THE IMPACT OF AUTONOMOUS DRIVING & ADAS FEATURES ON AUTOMOTIVE SEATING & INTERIORS

Dr. José Solaz - Scientific Director | Head of Innovation, Automobile & Mobility, Instituto de Biomecánica (IBV)

Fully autonomous L4/L5 vehicles are predicted to completely change the business of seating. What will this mean for the interior and seating segment from a technical point of view and what will be the dollar impact of this evolution is an unknown.

Understand exactly what autonomous driving will mean for car seats and the way they will be designed. We’re giving you the opportunity to delve deeper into this future-focused topic, and understand:

  •  What will need to be integrated into vehicle seats to enable occupants to sleep in their cars, watch movies in their cars or have meetings in their vehicles, without necessarily facing forwards?
  • What does out-of-position seating in an autonomous vehicle mean for crash performance?
  • How restraints be impacted by and integrated into autonomous vehicles?
