President of the Electric and New Energies Championships Commission
Burkhard Göschel is President of the Electric and New Energies Championships Commission since 2010. He has been a member of GPWC, the Manufacturers’ Association of Formula 1 in 2001 and President of GPMA in 2003.
Burkhard started at MAGNA International as CTO Vehicles and Powertrain Group in 2007. The same year he joined the Board of Directors of Maxwell Technologies. In 2010, he has been appointed Chief Technical Officer of MAGNA International.
Burkhard was the Head of Formula 1 Operations of BMW Group during 6 years (2000-2006). In 2006, he joined the Board of Management of BMW AG as Senior Advisor.
Burkhard started his career as Engine Predevelopment engineer at Daimler-Benz AG (1976-1977). In 1978, he joined BMW to work on powertrain development and became Director of Motorcycle Development between 1989 and 1992. He has been appointed as Project Manager Roadster (1992-1993) and launched the BMW Manufacturing Plant Spartanburg in USA. Still at BMW Company, he became Vice President on Special Models Series (1993-1999). In 2000, he joined the Board of Management of BMW AG Research and started to be Executive Vice President of Overall Vehicle Development.
Burkhard has studied Mechanical Engineering at Munich Technical University and graduated as a Diplom-Ingenieur. Then he entered in the Institute for Engine Development of Daimler-Benz Research Munich. Burkhard has also a Doctor’s Degree from Stuttgart Technical University.
He also received several honorary titles as Honorary Professorship of the University of Technology Graz, Honorary Doctorate of the University of Technology Munich and Honorary Senator of the University of Technology Munich.
