As the automotive industry moves towards electrification and autonomous driving, steering continues to be one of the main critical systems influencing the future roadmap of vehicle dynamics.
Steering systems are being heavily modified, and with increased investment in steer-by-wire technology, OEMs are looking for improvements in efficiency, performance and functionality while keeping costs down. However, as the physical link between the road and the steering wheel is removed, the new challenges of redundancy, functional safety, and recreating steering feel are ultimately contributing to the delay of SbW integration. Alongside steer-by-wire, OEMs and suppliers are looking to make current steering systems more efficient from a cost, weight, and power consumption point of view, without compromising performance and safety.
