Sometimes it can be tricky to recall the relationships between the world’s biggest carmakers.
Exactly how many core brands does the VW Group own? And how about FCA? And do any of the major automakers have shareholdings in one another?
In order to answer these questions and more, we decided to explore the links between the main carmakers, creating an infographic that shows the world’s top makers plus key shareholdings that further knit the industry together.
For clarity, we’ve boiled down to the number of featured OEMs as much as possible. However, we’re sure you’ll agree that the web of brands across different global markets remains highly complex.
These relationships also become trickier to pin down once you include some of the key shareholdings between makers, including the relationship between Daimler and the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, and the significant stakes made in the former by Chinese OEMs BAIC and Geely.
