Since 2012 Florent Frederix is Principal Administrator in the domain of Cybersecurity in the Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (CONNECT). Before this assignment he was 6 years Head of Sector for the Internet of Things and Radio Frequency Identification in the Directorate General for Information Society and Telecommunications (INFSO).

 From 1990 to 2000, Florent was Research Programs Manager at Alcatel, then world's largest telecommunication company thanks to their valuable contribution to broadband Internet over copper and fibre optic networks. Prior to his stay at Alcatel he was Research and Development Manager at AESTHEDES, the company that was heralded as world leading in the domain of pre-press art design systems.

 Florent is a Honorary Doctor of the University of Hasselt (BE) and an alumnus Policy Fellow of Cambridge University’s Centre for Science and Policy.
