The aircraft cabin is a temporary, artificial ecosystem with all elements of the
interior and service coming together to create the guest experience. Matthew is the ecologist, assuring everything
in that ecosystem remains in balance. Every aspect of the flight is connected,
from the lighting systems to the sugar packets. All elements require harmony in
order to support the best possible customer service. Matthew has been with
Alaska Airlines for 30 years, focused solely on the aircraft cabin and every component
and person that comes together in that space. 190 people sharing a mere 1,700
square feet, 7 miles above the ground is the space he designs for. His
specialty is how people interact with each other and their surroundings. His
intentional design for limited space does not end at work, Matthew also lives
in a tiny house within the city of Seattle.
