Until now, Functional Safety has always been a ‘nice to have’ concept. Today, ISO 26262 & SOTIF cannot be avoided. While ISO 26262 is reaching a certain level of maturity, new legislation is driving mandatory safety requirements, and autonomous driving, software-defined vehicles, and AI-based applications are introducing new challenges of ensuring safety with unparalleled levels of complexity.

SOTIF is also coming in thick and fast, and safety experts are on the cusp of decision making for the third edition of ISO 26262. According to one working group member, ‘the link between ISO 26262 & SOTIF is the biggest and most hotly contested topic’ being debated in the functional safety community right now. To prepare for the release of the third edition, OEMs, Tier-1 & Tier-2 suppliers are now looking for the next wave of guidance to successfully implement SOTIF, optimise ISO 26262 processes, and accommodate for changes in the automotive industry right now.

The biennial Functional Safety USA event will return to Ann Arbor, Michigan in September 2025; but this might be the year you and your team comes across the Atlantic, to Berlin, Germany and take the opportunity to network with and learn from Working Group members and 100's more on home soil

Take a look at the agenda for the 14th Annual Functional Safety Week Europe 2024 - taking place from April 15 to 18, 2024 in Berlin, Germany.

Sincerely,
