10AM - 11AM EST
SELECTION OF PERMANENT MAGNET AND LOW RARE EARTH MATERIAL MOTOR AND CONTROL FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES
The permanent magnet and induction traction motor share the same stator construction. Even the rotor shows many similarities when it comes to dynamic behavior and losses. But that is not all. Also the power electronics inverter and the control, besides the observer for the rotor speed and position, are very similar and shares the same components and control strategy. Comparing the two traction drive concepts reveals many similarities regarding construction, control and behavior, but subtle differences in cost price, lifetime, efficiency and circularity.
In this session we will have a look at:
> Architecture of the control in a traction drive> Similarities in the construction of motors, power electronics and control of traction drives> Rotor speed and position observers, sensored or sensorless> Cost price versus operational costs with regard to efficiencyPeter van Duijsen, Researcher, TU Delft
