Chief Operations Officer Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT)
Tony Kratofil was appointed Chief
Operating Officer and Chief Engineer for the Michigan Department of
Transportation in August 2018. As a member of the Director's Executive
Team, he provides leadership and support for planning, designing, operating,
and maintaining all aspects of a comprehensive integrated surface
transportation system that is responsive to the current and future needs of
Prior to this assignment, Mr.
Kratofil served in a variety of roles with MDOT, including Metro Region Engineer,
Bay Region Engineer and Lansing Transportation Service Center Manager. He
has a strong background in planning, project development and transportation
systems management & operations. Mr. Kratofil has been with MDOT for
over 26 years.
Mr. Kratofil holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the
University of Michigan and a Master of Science degree in Administration from
Central Michigan University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in
the State of Michigan.
He serves as a member of Transportation Research Board’s
Regional Transportation Systems Management & Operations Committee and
co-chair of its Sub-committee on Connected and Automated Vehicles, vice-chair
of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Official’s
Committee for Transportation Systems Operations, and as past chair of the
Technical Advisory Committee for the National Operations Center of Excellence.
