Director Functional Safety
Renesas Electronics

Dear colleagues,

It was an immense pleasure to be given again the opportunity to co-chair the one the only Functional Safety Week with my dear friend Franck. This was the 3rd time in a row that we were given this key role and it was even better than before (let’s see if it’s really possible to get an even better result). With our usual mix of expertise and humour we coordinated the 3 days conference and engaged in a journey full of presentations and open technical discussions. This was without doubt a key moment for the automotive sector going through a full face-lift. Buzzwords as Software Defined Vehicle, Electrification, Automated Driving but also Autonowashing are continuously popping up. Despite the very difficult and unprecedented financial situation we are experiencing with strong competition, it’s definitely a very exciting moment rich of challenges and opportunities. The 3rd edition of ISO26262, our number 1 standard, was just kicked off in October 2024 with a technical meeting scheduled for this coming May. This gives us a golden opportunity to have in the same room ISO WG members (including part leaders) interacting with industry members to exchange ideas and influence the content of the standard. But we will not stop just to ISO26262 that now it’s clearly not enough anymore and we also covered the key new standards (ISO/PAS 8800, ISO 21448, ISO TS 5083, ...) and discussed together pros and cons while sharing experiences. Only through open discussion and putting aside our competitive aspects, we can get closer to resolve some of the biggest challenges that the automotive community has experienced to date. Only with your contribution we made this conference a true success.

Dear colleagues,

It was with my great pleasure and honour that I co-chaired the Automotive Functional Safety Week 2025 with one of the best safety experts in the world, Riccardo Vincelli, a close friend and former colleague.
This was the third year in a row that we co-chaired this event, and we will do our best to moderate the conference, to ensure that everyone has a great experience and to encourage you all to get involved and share your opinions during the sessions.
Kiera Jansen prepared an amazing agenda, filled with automotive safety experts and a variety of domains to be addressed, including ISO 26262, ISO 21448, ISO/PAS 8800 and ISO/TS 5083, during the conference makes this the most comprehensive event on safety for automotive.
The world is changing, and safety must be part of these changes. Book your seat to not miss the opportunity to join us to learn, debate, educate, network and benefit from the best "group therapy" for safety people!
I look forward to meeting you all at future editions of Automotive Functional Safety Week.
Best Regards,
