What is Behind an Automotive Plug?
Up until the time of electric vehicles (EV) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) automotive electric connectorization has been comparatively simple. However, with the advent of higher voltage and amperage systems, along with the increased use of telecommunications, matters have become enormously complex, with factors such as the increased amount of cabling and corrosion driving connector and receptacle development. In turn complexity and system criticality present safety concerns, and these, in turn drive the need for standardization. This article examines some of those issues.
